IT IS A VERY PLEASANT SAIL over to the fishing and yachting village of Port Bannatyne in the north of The Isle of Bute, at the entrance of The Kyles of Bute. Now the village marina has its pontoons in place it@s possible to step ashore and wander about this friendly holiday village set in spectacular scenery of highlands, seascapes and lochs. There is a unique ancient golf-course, a pitch for playing the French game of Petanque and the old tram-track to Ettrick Bay providing a great hikers' trail. The Post Office is also the village shop and cafe, and there are three pubs: The Port Inn with a beer garden, pool, TV and lunches, The Anchor Tavern with a cheery openfire and locals' bar, and The Russian Tavern, an up-market restaurant serving freshly landed seafood and fine Russian specialities. They have four inexpensive guestrooms and import beers, wines and vodkas from Russia.
